Ulker is one of the largest food companies in Europe. It was founded by Sabri Ulker on February 22nd, 1944. It is based in the Turkish city of Istanbul and exports its products to about 110 countries around the world.
Founding of Ulker Company
Sabri Ulker was born in 1920 in the Crimea, his family emigrated to Turkey in 1929. Mr. Sabry founded Ulker food industries Co. in 1944 in the form of a small pastry shop, where his mother made light pastries and biscuits, which are sold in the store. Four years later, in 1948, he was able to open a small workshop with the participation of his brother Asim.
1970 was the year when the scope of his business expanded. He began exporting biscuits and chocolate to the countries of the Middle East, thus becoming in a few years, the owner of the largest manufacturer of food products in Turkey.
In 2003, Ulker company received the ISO certificate. In the following year, it received the award of the best confectionery company in Europe. Sabri Ulker Food & Genetics Research Foundation was established at Harvard University, USA. He died on July 12th, 2012 at the age of 92.
After the death of Sabri Ulker, the United Biscuit Company was acquired by Yildiz Holding Conglomerate - the owner of Ulker also - on November 3rd, 2014. The company continued to grow as one of the most important and largest food companies in the world, with annual profits exceeding the barrier of 800 million dollars annually. And in 2017 it became the second largest confectionery company in the world in terms of sales volume.
